John C. Zelko beloved husband, father, and grandfather

Portville- John C. Zelko, of Lillibridge Rd, Portville, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at home after a long illness.

John was born in Olean, November 20, 1941, he was the son of the late Peter and Frances Wesoloski Zelko. On November 17, 1984, he married the former Jaye Morgan, who survives.

After graduating from Portville Central School, John joined the Marines and served for four years. He was a life member of the Portville Fire Department, serving as an EMT and an ambulance captain for many years. John received a proclamation for his 35 years of voluntary service. He loved working as an electrician, at his job with Dresser Rand and remodeling apartments and houses.

John is survived by his loving wife, Jaye; his children, Jaclyn Zelko of Virginia, Joel (Ashley) Zelko of Portville, Jarrod Zelko of Portville, and Jessica (Todd) Prescott of Portville; grandchildren, Eva Frances-Ann, Henry Charles, Hunter Michael, Kallen Lee, Haylee Grace, Journie Rose, Camden Michael and Cayden Matthew Prescott; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a brother, Bob Zelko.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Frances; two brothers, Tommy Zelko and, Louis and his wife Gayle (and former wife Ellie); a sister, Gladys (Suzie) Kolata and her husband John Kolata; and a sister-in-law, Anne Zelko.

At John’s request there will be no services, burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorials if desired may be made to St. Jude Hospital or The Wounded Warrior Project.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. 1303 E. State St, Olean.
